Letterheads 2016 Amsterdam
International Sign Painters meet-up in Amsterdam.
This year’s ‘Letterhead’s meet’ Festival took place in Amsterdam. It was an opportunity for the top Sign Painters in the world to meet up and, among other things, get busy with what you would expect Sign Painters to do – design and paint signs and typography.
The event, lasting almost a week, was immensely popular among the enthusiasts of lettering in various forms and of the best quality. Hundreds of people came to admire the amazing skills of the masters of the craft, as well as the works of the participants of the workshop led by the artists.
Other than exchanging the experiences, feasting and unleashing the muses through parties, there was also a mural painting session, in the course of which two pieces were created. To many, the most important were the workshops, just to mention a few:
Lettering composition – Pierre Tardif (Canada)
Lettering– Casual & Gothic – Damon Styer (USA)
Antiquing signs – Rick Jansen (Canada)
Gold Leaf – Josh Luke (USA)
Creating signs and menus on chalk blackboards – Cheryl McLean (Australia)
Experimental poster typography – High on Type collective (Netherlands)
Sculpting letters in stone– Janno Hahn (Netherlands)
Experimental calligraphy – Brody Neuenschwander (USA)
Pinstriping – Pekka Mannermaa (Finland)
And many more!
We are quite excited to share that the design of the mural which came to life on the walls of the very centre of the events – Volk’s Hotel – was ours! It was quite thrilling to see the absolute top artists of world’s Sign Painting engaging in its conception. Next year’s ‘Letterhead’s meet’ will take place in Oslo. If you think you are just slightly interested, make sure you don’t miss it! See you there!
Much respect to amsterdamsignpainters.nl for organising this incredible meeting! Shout-out to Miranda, Jasper
