Artistic wall painting is a passion. Does artistic painting improve the atmosphere of cities?

Artistic wall painting is above all a passion, a pleasure, a source of satisfaction — but also hard work, perseverance and dedication.

Our studio was born from this passion and, although we focus primarily on creating advertising in the form of murals, we always strive to distinguish our work from typical advertising wherever we have the influence to do so. We also occasionally take on non-profit projects. Every piece affects the environment it inhabits — it draws attention, catches the eye and sparks conversation. Our home base is Warsaw, but we carry out projects across the whole of Poland.

The painters who work with us are true enthusiasts who bring dedication to every large-format mural they create. Outside of work, many of them consistently return to their studios to hone their craft, develop their artistic skills and deepen their knowledge of painting techniques. As creative, inventive and artistically hungry individuals, they organise exhibitions of their own work, launch grassroots artistic initiatives, or simply continue producing new paintings and graphic works.

The passion of Good Looking Studio's founders grew from painting as a hobby. The current team of painters are people with an enormous love for their craft who, unlike the founders, work creatively in practice every single day.

Artistic wall painting — a brief history.

Artistic wall painting is an excellent form of refined decoration and original advertising. The terminology varies — murals, wall designs, artistic paintings, large-format works, graffiti, frescoes — but does anyone stop to ask how it all began?

Frescoes date back to antiquity (such as the well-known Minoan frescoes). They are considered one of the most demanding techniques in wall painting, involving the application of lime-resistant paints onto wet plaster. Fresco painting allows for no corrections or changes during execution, but its undeniable advantage is extraordinary durability and artistic value. Types of fresco include buon fresco (applied to fresh, damp plaster) and the partial fresco known as al fresco, where corrections were added after drying using organic pigments. From the 17th century onwards, al fresco was combined with al secco (the so-called "dry fresco"). The most recent method is the photographic fresco — a technique discovered in Italy — which involves reproducing a work on paper and transferring it onto a wall. After the Baroque period, the fresco technique virtually disappeared. Another, lesser-known technique was marouflage, which involves adhering previously painted canvas to a wall. This method was used by P. Puvis de Chavannes, the most renowned creator of wall paintings in the second half of the 19th century.

And the technique closest to our hearts: murals — a form of decorative artistic wall painting — whose monumental origins trace back to the 1920s and 1930s in Mexico and other Latin American countries.

Artistic wall painting in Warsaw and beyond.

Large-format artistic wall painting commands admiration. These enormous works of art become permanent features of the urban landscape, and our expertise, experience and professionalism allow us to reproduce any work with outstanding precision and remarkable effect. We paint advertising, artistic and social murals. We create illustrations and comprehensive graphic facade designs for residential and commercial buildings. We paint large-format reproductions of artworks, execute competition murals, produce works with lighting installations, and organise live artistic painting demonstrations. We set no limits and collaborate with acclaimed, outstanding artists from Poland and abroad. We carry out advertising and artistic painting not only for commercial clients, but also for respected arts institutions — including galleries, museums and theatres — as well as for city authorities.

Artistically painted walls of our creation can be found across the entire country, but we would like to draw attention to the walls at Plac Europejski in Warsaw. There we had the extraordinary pleasure of creating large-format reproductions of works by world-renowned artists — Belgian illustrator François Schuiten and Polish surrealist Rafał Olbiński. These are artistic interpretations of Warsaw: its special places, streets, landmarks, rivers and parks.

Warsaw is changing thanks to us. A case in point: another exceptional series of artistic paintings was inspired by the poetry of Polish poet Jerzy Ficowski, known for his interest in Romani culture. These works were designed by renowned and highly regarded graphic artist and painter Piotr Młodożeniec. Our role was to translate them onto the facades of buildings in the Artystyczny Żoliborz housing estate in large format. We also painted a mural on the facade of Teatr Współczesny in Warsaw, based on an illustration by Andrzej Dudziński.

Artistic wall painting — pricing.

The price of an artistically painted wall depends on many factors: the complexity of the design (geometric, realistic, monochromatic or full colour palette, etc.), the labour intensity of the work, the size of the mural, and the structure and condition of the wall on which the painting is to be placed. The cost also depends on access to the painted surface — whether scaffolding, a lift platform or a hoist is required. Many factors influence the price of artistic wall painting, which is why every project is treated individually.

Artistically painted walls represent an enormous amount of human effort and heartfelt dedication. Artistic wall painting is a passion. Commitment, attention to detail, quality and integrity are key. These are the foundations of cultivating the craft of hand painting that goes far beyond the mere execution of commissions.

Artistic wall painting — what impact does it have on the atmosphere of cities? Is it only for large cities like Warsaw?

Artistic wall painting can significantly enhance the aesthetics of any environment, whether it is a small interior, a mural on the facade of a single building, or an integrated painting concept across an entire housing estate. Property developers and cities are increasingly open to new possibilities for transforming surfaces through artistic painting. One example is the transfer of works by graphic designers, illustrators and photographers onto walls — allowing the full potential of large-format painting to be realised and, above all, bringing life to places that are grey and dull. Inviting established artists to collaborate raises the prestige of a development and enriches the city with interesting new points on its cultural and artistic map. Modern buildings with artistically painted walls complement the urban space, add variety, and represent an example of art in the city — something that residents genuinely appreciate.

There are well-known cases around the world where artistically painted walls have significantly increased property values — for example, a Banksy painting on the wall of a pub in Liverpool doubled its market value. Our projects are primarily based in Warsaw, but our work can easily be found across the whole of Poland and in Europe.
